Yarn Club

“The first rule of yarn is never stop talking about yarn club.”

Yarn Club is a monthly subscription of sustainably produced premium yarns from our flocks. Each month you will receive one or two special skeins from the Maryland Lamb Coop member farms, a newsletter just for yarn club members, and extra accessories to help you complete your projects.  Our 100% wool yarns are made from our intensively and rotationally grazed sheep. When you’re wearing things you’ve made from our yarns you’re wearing sequestered carbon AND supporting small farms.

Our yarn is processed locally in small batches at family owned mills. Yarn club yarns include bulky, dk and worsted yarns in both natural and dyed colors. We work with local women-owned indie dye business to make special editions for yarn club. In fact, all the accessories and the extras in your monthly packages come from small women-owned businesses. Our yarns are made from a variety of breeds including: Cheviot, Romney, Corriedale, and Border Leister. Some of the New Roots Farm yarns also include alpaca wool from the farm or merino for added softness.

The 2024 Yarn Club will launch soon so make sure you’re subscribed to our weekly farm newsletter or following the farm on social media so you don’t miss it! Your subscription includes free shipping on your subscription and any additional yarn you purchase. Yarn Club Members also get access to our Member’s Only Yarn Products. We will be offering a range of limited edition yarns throughout the year in collaboration with designers, dyers, and our fiber mills that will be available to yarn club members first.

FAQ’s

Are patterns included?

Each month is not a “kit” so it is not put together with a particular project in mind, but your monthly yarn club newsletter will include suggestions for free patterns you can find online or on ravelry that would be suitable for the yarn in your that month’s subscription. Some months may include a special pattern as one of the special extras.

I don’t know how to knit, but I want to learn, should I sign up for yarn club?

We will not deter you from signing up for yarn club, but suggest if you are just starting out that you take a knitting class at your local yarn store, watch online tutorials, or find some knitting friends who can help you troubleshoot. The yarns you will receive in your subscription are suitable for beginners and great for easy projects like fingerless gloves, cowls, and hats. If you’re worried about being overwhelmed with yarn you can always purchase individual skeins of yarn from the Maryland Lamb Coop for your first project. Some people like to learn how to knit with cheaper yarn from craft stores, but we recommend starting with a yarn that you like that is suitable for easier beginning projects. Even better if you can find one you like that is sustainably and locally produced.

Do we get to choose what colors or yarns we get?

Yarn club is like a box of chocolates---you never know what you’re going to get and that is what makes it so fun! We don’t offer customization of your subscription. Each month is different. We designed yarn to club so you can try new yarns and see all the variety our flocks have to offer.

What if I want more of a particular type of yarn?

YES! We want you to fall in love with our yarn and make BIG projects with it. Additional skeins of yarn will be available in the members’ only yarn club online store for ordering. Members get first dibs on extra yarn, including our limited edition dye lots.

Can I join part way through the yarn club season?

Yarn club has a limited number of spots, but if there are spots available you can join during the season. You will only be charged for the months you get yarn.

Can I cancel?

Our discounted three and six month memberships are non refundable. You can cancel your monthly subscription—just let us know! We ask that you cancel by the 15th if you would like to cancel for the following month.

Can I give a membership as a gift?
